Website hosting and server logs
DDN is hosted by Hostinger. Under Hostinger’s terms, the provider for UK customers is Hostinger UK Limited. The website’s server is located in the United Kingdom and website backups are stored by Hostinger in Germany. Pages may be delivered through Hostinger’s content delivery network to make them load faster; caching does not set cookies for visitors.
When you visit, the hosting platform automatically records technical information about each request: the time, your IP address, the page or file requested, your browser and device type (as reported by your browser), an approximate country based on the IP address, and the size and response time of the request. This is used only to deliver the site, keep it secure and diagnose faults.
Hostinger does not publish a fixed retention period for these logs. Its privacy policy says it keeps personal data only for as long as necessary to provide its services, and it acts as a processor for website owners under its data processing terms.
Google Analytics
If you accept analytics cookies, DDN uses Google Analytics 4 to produce aggregated statistics — for example which pages are viewed, how visitors arrive, approximate location (country or city), device and browser type, and simple interactions such as scrolling or using the site search. The Google Analytics code is added by DDN’s consent tool only after you accept. Google’s Site Kit plugin is used separately to view these reports inside WordPress.
Google Analytics 4 does not log or store full IP addresses. Google signals is switched off, Google Analytics is not linked to any advertising service, and the optional settings that share Google Analytics data with Google for its own purposes are switched off. Google processes this data for DDN under the Google Ads Data Processing Terms.
Google Analytics is set to keep detailed event-level data for 2 months and user-level data for 14 months, with the 14 months restarting each time you return. These settings control how long the detailed data behind DDN’s reports is kept. They do not apply to aggregated reports, which Google Analytics keeps for longer and which do not identify individual visitors.
Google Analytics does not load until you choose Accept in the cookie banner. If you choose Reject, or ignore the banner, it is not used. If you accept and later change your mind using Manage consent, analytics stops and the Google Analytics cookies are deleted from your browser. See the Cookie Policy for details.
Cookie consent
DDN uses the Complianz consent tool, together with the WP Consent API, to ask for your permission before any non-essential cookies are used and to remember your choice. Your choice is stored in small essential cookies on your device for up to 12 months. These record only your preferences, not who you are.
Contacting DDN by email
If you email tony@dinosaurdiscoverynetwork.com, your name, email address and message are used to reply to you and, where relevant, to make a correction you suggest. Email is provided through Hostinger’s business email service. You will not be added to any mailing list.
Comments
DDN does not offer comments, so no comment data is collected.
Third-party services and links
- Google — analytics, only with your consent (see above).
- Hostinger — website hosting, content delivery, backups and email.
- WordPress emoji support — if your browser cannot display an emoji, WordPress may load the image from WordPress.org.
- External links — DDN links to other websites, including the Dinosaurs Everywhere group on Facebook. Facebook content is not embedded, so nothing is sent to Facebook unless you follow a link. Other websites have their own privacy policies.

Who information is shared with
Personal information is shared only with the service providers above, who process it on DDN’s behalf under their data processing terms, or where required by law. It is never sold.
International transfers
The website server is in the United Kingdom. Website backups are stored in Germany, which UK law recognises as providing adequate protection. Google may process analytics data in the United States, and Hostinger and Google may use other group companies or sub-processors outside the UK. Where personal information is transferred outside the UK, it is protected by safeguards recognised under UK law, such as the UK–US data bridge or the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, as set out in each provider’s data processing terms.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to:
- see a copy of the personal information held about you
- correct inaccurate information
- have your information deleted
- restrict or object to how it is used
- receive your information in a portable format, where this applies
- withdraw consent at any time — for analytics, use Manage consent
To make a request, email tony@dinosaurdiscoverynetwork.com. Requests are answered within one month.

Children
DDN is written for curious readers of all ages. It has no accounts, competitions or forms that ask for personal information, and analytics only runs with consent.
