Cookies are small text files that websites store on your device. Similar technologies, such as browser storage, work in the same way. This page lists what Dinosaur Discovery Network (DDN) uses, based on testing of the live site, and how you can control it. For how personal information is handled, see the Privacy Policy.
Your choices
When you first visit DDN, a banner asks whether you accept analytics cookies. Accept and Reject are equally easy to choose, and the site works fully either way. You can also choose View preferences to see each category. No cookies are set before you make a choice.
You can change or withdraw your choice at any time by selecting Manage consent, which reopens the banner. It appears as a small tab at the edge of every page, on desktop and mobile. Choosing Reject after you previously accepted stops analytics immediately and deletes the Google Analytics cookies from your browser. You can also clear or block cookies in your browser settings.
You can also review and change your choices here:
Essential cookies
These remember your consent choice, or are used only when site editors log in. They do not track you and are always on.
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| cmplz_banner-status, cmplz_policy_id | Remember that you have answered the banner and which version of this policy applied | 12 months |
| cmplz_statistics, cmplz_marketing, cmplz_preferences, cmplz_functional, cmplz_consented_services | Record your choice for each category | 12 months |
| wp_consent_* (for example wp_consent_statistics) | Share your choice with WordPress plugins so they respect it | 30 days |
| wordpress_test_cookie, wordpress_logged_in_*, wordpress_sec_*, wp-settings-* | Used only when site editors log in | Session to 1 year |
| _lscache_vary | Ensures logged-in editors are not shown cached pages | Session |
Analytics cookies (only if you accept)
These are set by Google Analytics 4 only after you choose Accept. DDN uses them to understand how the site is used so it can be improved.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics | Distinguishes one browser from another so visits can be counted | Up to 2 years (some browsers limit this to about 13 months) |
| _ga_49PV17FZXL | Google Analytics | Keeps track of a visit (session) for DDN’s analytics property | Up to 2 years (some browsers limit this to about 13 months) |
If you reject analytics these cookies are not set. If you accepted earlier and later withdraw consent, analytics stops and these cookies are deleted. The cookie lifetimes above are separate from how long Google Analytics keeps data for DDN’s reports, which is explained in the Privacy Policy. Google describes how it uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Other storage
WordPress stores a small setting in your browser’s session storage (wpEmojiSettingsSupports) to remember whether your browser can display emoji. It is deleted when you close the tab and contains no personal information.
Third-party content
DDN links to Facebook but does not embed Facebook content, so Facebook does not set cookies through DDN.
